2 John 6a

And this is love; that we walk according to his commandments

Walking in love is bumpy

After my morning prayer, I usually think I have my path pretty well set for the day. Sometimes it works out that way, but surprises happen.

Several weeks ago I was talking in a group after the first service, and then … it happened.

I said something that did not support the group; it was not a loving thing to say. But it was out; mouth engaged before the brain. Of course, this failed exchange dawned on me after it was too late to do anything about it.

Walking in love is much harder than it sounds, perhaps especially during these stressful and unsettling days. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep trying. It just takes a while to learn the skill to support rather than to disrupt. Progress comes slowly, but it comes.

Prayer: May the Holy Spirit guide us to walk in love, today and every day. Amen

To ponder: When did you have a bump in your walk of love?
