Starting Thursday, October 8 – Morning and Evening Sessions
The Geography of Jesus Bible Study The Bible is full of geography. But when we read about locations such as Samaria, Capernaum, Jericho and Gethsemane, we may not always know where they are on a map, their relative positions to each other or how geography impacted Jesus and his travels. We will use Matthew as our travel guide to explore the geography of Jesus. Not only will we discover locations, but we will consider how geography played a role in Jesus’ message. Understanding a location’s physical and cultural geography allows one to expand from, “the distance from Bethlehem to Jerusalem is 5-6 miles” to, “walking from Bethlehem to Jerusalem is the same as walking from St. Timothy to the intersection of Ogden Avenue and I-355 along a busy road with lots of commercial activity. You have to climb an overpass at Route 53 and depending on the time of year the temperature could range from -20 to 90 degrees.”
We will meet on Thursdays over three one-hour sessions on October 8, 15 and 22. You can choose between mornings at 10:00 or evenings at 6:30. Greg Kerfoot will bring the maps as we discover the geography of Jesus.
Please register on the sign-up sheet in the Narthex at St. Timothy.
