Last Father’s Day weekend on June 20th, 2021 an EF-3 tornado whipped through Naperville, Woodridge, Darien, and Burr Ridge Sunday night with 180 mph winds.
See video footage below for a look at the day after the tornadoes.
Over 100 homes in Woodridge and 130 in Naperville were damaged many of them deemed uninhabitable. To date we are told by Lutheran Social Services of IL and Camp Noah that there are families that are still not back in their homes.
The road to recovery after a tornado is long and difficult for families and parents who are trying to navigate where to take the family while homes are being repaired, working with relief organizations, insurance, etc. Disaster changes lives — especially for children. Whatever type of disaster or trauma they have experienced, children often need support to process what has happened.
Camp Noah is a FREE therapuetic day camp for children who have been impacted by trauma. Camp Noah’s proven resiliency building curriculm enables children to process their disaster and move them to a place of hope and resiliency.
Our congregation has supported Camp Noah since 2006 when we sent our first Volunteer Staff Team to Lake Charles, Lousiana to serve the children and families who were devasted by Hurrican Katrina.
This June will mark the 1 year anniversary of the tornadoes that impacted our community and St. Timothy will be hosting a camp in response to those storms.
IF YOU OR YOU KNOW OF SOMEONE WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM CAMP NOAH PLEASE CONTACT ONE OF THE NAPERVILLE TEAM LEADERS.
